Budding soap mogul invited to speak at conference

For such a young man, Spencer Kelly is certainly accomplishing a lot in life.

Last year, the Oxford Virtual Academy / homeschooled student unleashed his entrepreneurial spirit and founded his own business.

This year, Spencer, an Orion Township resident, will be a panelist and exhibitor at the US Autism & Asperger Association’s (USAAA) 12th Annual World Conference and Expo to be held in Portland, Oregon Aug. 24-27.

On Friday, August 25, from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, at the USAAA 12th Annual World Conference and Expo in Portland, Oregon, Spencer Kelly will be participating on the Self-Advocacy Panel, along with other self-advocates, two others who use letter boards for communication.

"It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing," said Spencer, who will celebrate his 16th birthday on Aug. 12. "It’s unbelievable."

Conference Kicks Off With Award-Winning Film, Swim Team, and Keynote with Temple Grandin

Opening up the conference, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, August 24, is the Oregon Premiere of the award-winning film, Swim Team. Following the film, there will be a Q&A with Lara Stolman, the producer and director of Swim Team.

Then Friday morning, August 25, Temple Grandin, PhD, ranked one of the world's most influential people, will be the Keynote speaker. There will also be a special, "One-on-One" with Temple Grandin following her presentation and book signing to follow.


Parents, Families, Caregivers, Adults with ASD, Employers, Educators, Professionals, Agencies, Self-Advocates, and anyone who wants to learn more about Autism, Asperger Syndrome, and related disorders are welcome to attend.



Continuing education is offered throughout the entire conference for all professionals.

Check with your state or national associations to ensure CEUs are accepted by your organization. Attendees may register to receive a Certificate of Attendance (COA) or CEU certificate.

SCHOOLS - USAAA introduces breakout sessions geared toward school sessions for educators and professionals throughout the conference. “This program offers continuing education for up to 17.0 clock hours for teachers and educators in Washington State". "This program provides for a Certificate of Attendance offered to educators in the state of Oregon for up to 17.25 hours." A Certificate of Attendance is available for all other educators in the U.S.
