Caregivers: Stress and Burnout - Learn Tips and Tools For Taking Care Of You

The well-being of parents or a parent is critical to the health and recovery of a child with autism. Parents often forget about taking care of themselves. As parents of special needs kids, we are constantly running and running. The first time we actually sit down, we actually put our head on the pillow, if we are lucky enough to get to do that. Some research suggests that for every year a parent takes care of a child full time, they age 7 years, biologically. We always have to remind ourselves to take care of ourselves, because if you are extremely rundown and exhausted, everything you are trying to do to help your child is going to be reduced substantially.
