The Challenges of Autism in Small-Town America
Lacking easy access to specialized care, some families are turning to video-conferencing for treatment.

USAAA Editor's Note: In the entire article, there wasn't any mention of any type of biomedical intervention. Our wonderful biomedical physicians, throughout the county, do offer video-conferencing with parents and local physicians to keep them up to date on treating the medical problems that exist so frequently with individuals affected by autism and related disorders.

Morning circle is off to a rough start at LilyPad Learning Center. On a bright Monday in September, in the large preschool classroom in Madrid, Iowa, 15 children sit cross-legged, patiently waiting their turn to report whether they watched football or read books over the weekend.

Wings for Autism program helps children get familiar with air travel

Autistic children were able to practice their preflight skills and how to be an airline passenger Saturday, through Wings for Autism program for the first time in Oklahoma City.

"It should not stop anybody ... no disability should stop anybody from living life and following their dreams," said Will Schifflett, parent of two autistic children at the event.
