ONE IN 65 HAS AUTISM DIAGNOSIS - Report says investment in teacher training is recommended.

A report into school autism services has found a far higher prevalence of the condition among school students than previously thought as reported by RTE News in Ireland. The study, carried out for the National Council for Special Education in Ireland, found that one in 65 school students has a diagnosis of autism.

Dr. Gil Tippy, PsyD will will explore the four key core academic areas implemented at the Rebecca School located in New York, NY on Thursday, August 18, at the 2016 USAAA 11th Annual World Conference in Louisville, KY, August 18-20, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Louisville.

Dr. Tippy is the Clinical Director of the Rebecca School in New York. As one of the founders of the school, he has been responsible for evaluating over 300 children, and has been central in creating both the academic and clinical programs. The Rebecca School was featured on NBC Dateline's story about students on the autism spectrum transitioning out of school environments and into adulthood!

Why You Need to Begin Transition Planning Early

"My child is 14. When I requested a transition plan and transition services, the IEP team said they don't have to provide transition services until he is 16. Is this correct?"

No! Transition services must be included in the IEP that is in effect when your child turns 16. In general, that IEP will be developed when he is 15. Some states adopted a lower age for transition so you need to check your state's special ed regulations.

The Self-Advocates, Challenges Throughout the Lifespan will feature five self-advocates on Saturday, August 20 at the 2016 USAAA 11th Annual World Conference in Louisville, KY, August 18-20, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Louisville.
