Parallel Play: Growing Up with Undiagnosed Asperger's

tim page"In a personal chronicle that is by turns hilarious and heartbreaking, Page revisits his early days through the prism of newfound clarity. Here is the tale of a boy who could blithely recite the names and dates of all the United States’ presidents and their wives in order (backward upon request), yet lacked the coordination to participate in the simplest childhood games. It is the story of a child who memorized vast portions of the World Book Encyclopedia simply by skimming through its volumes, but was unable to pass elementary school math and science." (Random House LLC)

Tim Page was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome at the age of forty-five and says, "I am very grateful to have the diagnosis [of Asperger Syndrome] because it explains a lot." He is a professor at both the Thornton School of Music and the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California. Page won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 1997 for his writings about music in The Washington Post, where he held the position of chief classical music critic since 1995.

""Fascinating. . . . In this tender but unsparing look back, Page . . . [leaves] readers to ponder how a condition that bedevils and isolates can also yield magicianly talent, originality, and grit." -O, The Oprah Magazine.

"It explained everything; why I was good at certain things and completely oblivious to others." - Tim Page

Tim Page, DFA, will be a featured presenter at this year's USAAA 9th Annual World Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, September 4-7, 2014.
