USAAA Joins Train 4 Autism as a Preferred Charity
Exciting new program enables athletes to raise funds for USAAA
through their participation in any athletic event
Los Angeles, California. (December 8, 2008) – Train 4 Autism (T4A) announced today that US Autism & Asperger Association (USAAA), a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to Autism and Asperger education, support, and solutions, has joined their Preferred Charity Program. T4A is a parent-founded nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and funds for autism research and treatment through athletic events.
T4A is a powerful and very unique program. It provides a system by which individuals can train for and participate in athletic events such as marathons, half marathons, 10-K’s, 5-K’s, walks, triathlons, swimming, and/ or cycling events and at the same time raise funds for USAAA or the autism program of their choice. Participants create and edit their own web page, send emails to donors, get training tips, join or create their own T4A chapters, meet professional athlete spokespersons, all while raising funds and awareness of autism.
With the help of athletes raising funds for USAAA, the organization has quickly grown to more than 150 competitors, with a dozen local Chapters in states including California, Florida, Maryland, New York, Missouri, and Texas in only a few short months. Train 4 Autism athletes Debbie Lambert competed in the Long Beach Marathon in October 2008 and raised more than $200.00 and Sergio Coronado competed in the Los Angeles Triathlon in September 2008 and also raised funds for USAAA.
“We both share a common goal in our commitment to raise awareness and funds for new interventions and research for Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome”, says Lawrence P. Kaplan, PhD, Founder and CEO of USAAA. “I want to thank Ben Fesagaiga and Brian Thompson for creating Train 4 Autism and providing an opportunity for athletes to raise funds for US Autism & Asperger Association to provide immediate solutions for the autism community.”
“We’re very excited to have USAAA join the T4A team as a Preferred Charity and encourage parents, family members, teachers, therapists, caregivers and others touched by autism to raise funds for this great organization.” says Brian Thompson, T4A Parent & Director of Program Development. Personally I started running about eight years ago, (shortly after my son Reid was diagnosed on the spectrum) as at the time I weighed close to 290 pounds and realizing he may need long-term care, I quickly came to the conclusion I needed to make many life changing decisions. To date my wife Kristin and I have completed five marathons and our 13 year-old son just completed his first half-marathon all raising funds for autism awareness and education. You don’t have to be a seasoned athlete to join T4A or run a full or half marathon, just somebody who has a goal and wants to help organizations making a significant positive difference in our community like USAAA.”
